Hurricane Lee Remnants Hit Ellicott City

Wednesday, September 7, 2011 For the second time in two weeks, a hurricane/tropical storm hit Ellicott City.  Once again crews were ready and staffed the firehouse.  The remnants of Hurricane Lee that hit Louisana and the Gulf Coast earlier this week made their way through the Mid-Atlantic bringing torrential downpours that some say were worse than last week's Hurricane Irene.  Although there was little wind, no downed trees and power lines, Lee brought rain, flooded streets and basements.  In addition to the career staffed E22 and TWR2, the volunteers staffed E21, SQ2 and B27 throughout the day running several hazard calls, flooded basements and swiftwater rescues. Station 2 also served as the base for the Fire EOC and several strike teams to assist with the call volume.
